I hope you’ll allow me a little moment to share what God’s been speaking to me lately…
At the beginning of 2014, I felt that God was moving me into a new season. It was then that He laid this verse on my heart:
“Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” Isaiah 43:19
At that time, I don’t think I even understood the depth of that verse for this season, other than the fact that it was, as the verse states, “new”. Seemed pretty simple. But as I walked deeper into what I felt God was calling me toward, I found myself struggling, hitting walls, falling, failing, hurting and ultimately wishing and whining to have my “old season” back. Ha! (Sound familiar? I KNOW I’m not the only one who’s been here!)
Recently, God began speaking to me about what He means when He says He’s “doing a new thing.” See, doing something NEW, requires letting go of something OLD. How many OLD (i.e.: dead, lifeless, useless, purposeless, godless) things do we carry around all the time without even realizing it?? (And where did they even come from??) God is desperate to do something new! But He can’t do something new, without changing the old.
Notice the second half of that verse: “I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” God will sometimes TAKE YOU TO the desert, and WALK YOU THROUGH the wilderness to get you to that something NEW that’s waiting for you on the other side. Even Jesus spent 40 days in the desert before going into a new season of ministry. Why?
One word: Preparation. God desperately wants to bless us, give us the desires of our hearts and make our lives and ministries fruitful. But He HAS to get rid of the junk that’s not supposed to follow us into those new levels of ministry.
I’m sharing this with you because I believe many of you have been in a desert too. I believe many of you have felt like you’re crying out in the wilderness. I want you to know: not only is God WITH you, He is FOR you. What you are walking through is not meant to harm you but rather to protect you. There may be things in your life that you didn’t even notice have crept in…and those things are meant to steal from you, to destroy you and to kill you. But God, in His great mercy, wants to walk you through the wilderness, separate you from your “comfortable” and get you alone so He can reveal the “old”. He desperately wants to get rid of the things that are trying to get rid of you!
Let this be an encouragement to you in your desert or wilderness. Great things are on their way! Eagerly and wholeheartedly flush out the old to make room for the new. Get yourself ready! He is absolutely bursting to bless you!
He loves you. And so do I. xoxo
“And he who was seated on the throne said, ‘Behold, I am making all things new.’ Also he said, ‘Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.'” Revelation 21:5
